These errors account for 95% of all translation send-backs. Keep an eye out for them!
Also, make sure you have a look at the 翻訳審査ガイド if you haven’t already.
Common Translation Errors
- Translations require full punctuation, even if the original manga doesn’t contain it.

No leaving blank space at the end of sentences!

Add periods, commas, ellipses etc. as required.
- Proofread your translations once for typos. Spelling errors, missing punctuation, and missing translations are the most common reasons a translation gets sent back.
- Translate all dialog and relevant Japanese text. Mantra’s auto-retouch doesn’t pick up all text required for translation. Add manual retouches and text boxes as necessary.
- Check pages with stylistic text or many sound effects for untranslated dialog.
Mantra Basics
- Add text boxes by clicking the plus (+) button in the top left of Mantra.
- Add/edit a retouch by clicking Retouches (レタッチ) in the top right of Mantra.
- Avoid using Fill (塗り潰し) to retouch as it can only create centered squares.
- Use the color dropper tool in Retouches to match bubble or font colors.

Common Retouch and Font Errors
-
Mantra’s initial retouches are AI-based. When text is outside a bubble or box, the software will sometimes smudge or smear the page, or miss the text altogether. Delete faulty retouches, and add manual ones to fix the issue.
-
When adding a new text bubble or box, add a 1pt black border to it.
-
Avoid text overlap by removing text borders (縁取り) or adjusting them to 3-5.
-
Use a balanced font size that minimizes hyphenation.
